Dennis Hassell is a born storyteller. His mother
is a kitchen comedienne, and his grandfather, who ran the first radio
station in Vancouver in the 1930's, used to adlib stories on the air
(Uncle Billy and the Squareshooters Club) while the musicians improvised.
A native of Vernon, British Columbia, Hassell studied at the University
of Alberta where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Magna
Cum Laude. Dennis worked and trained at the Shaw Festival, the Citadel
Theatre (Edmonton), Lamb’s Players (San Diego), and on various
film, video & television projects.
He has written over twelve productions for both stage and video,
produced over 50 shows, and directed many, including: A Dixie Gospel
(5 Dora Mavor Moore Award nominationa), Godspell, the Miracle Worker,
and The Gift Of The Magi . As an actor, Hassell tours North America
in productions of: St. Hilaria’s, the Sacred Diary of Adrian
Plass, Treasure Chest, and the Prospector.
With a special interest in stories with a spiritual dimension,
he has taught at a dozen colleges and universities, and is a regular
performer and speaker at national conferences.
Dennis is excited to be incarnating his artistic vision as both
scriptwriter and performer, two greatly differing activities that
he finds feed each other.
Dennis lives with his wife and two children in Toronto,Ontario,
while his writing and performing have taken him as far as India,
England, and around the U.S. and Canada.
